Not only was this course originally fantastic, but Quietly decided to make it ever more beautiful, with some minor adjustments/improvements, and needless to say, he succeeded !
As a result, my following comments are based on my previous ones, with a few minor modifications on a few holes (6th, 12th, 14th and 17th).
With hang-gliders and paragliders flying by the coastline, you might be distracted quite a bit on this beautiful rendition of the Torrey Pines South course, slightly different from Quietly's previous versions, released in June (US Open at Torrey Pines) and in August (Torrey Pines South course).
With a few changed tee positions (and that big tower gone in front of the 13th tee, now repositioned behind it) and a par-5 6th hole (instead of a par-4 previously), this par 72 looks great, with its two shades of green on the fairways, and new structures around the course.
But one thing has not changed : its difficulty ! With plenty of out-of-bound areas, you better hit pretty accurate shots to avoid hollow wastelands, vertiginous cliffs and deep rolling hills if you want to finish with a decent score.
After the first two holes, slightly uphill and to the right, the scenery becomes gorgeous on the steep downhill par-3 3rd, with a panoramic view of the ocean in front, a tee shot over part of the deep valley, on the left, and a scary cliff behind the green.
The straight par-4 4th hole looks like a postcard, with its fairway next to the cliffs on the left and those hang gliders and paragliders flying pretty close to the tee above the crashing waves below.
With the ocean on the far right, the par-4 5th hole is less difficult with a blind uphill tee shot and a green, slightly to the right, unlike the right dogleg par-5 6th, where you will have to hit a nice tee shot to avoid a big hollow out-of-bound wasteland on the right (with a few trees on its edge on the left, midway) and a lone and thick tree in the right corner, a little further on the right.
Then, after the right dogleg par-4 7th hole with its spectacular panoramic view of the deep rolling hills as you reach the green, the next few holes are inland : the straight par-3 8th is slightly uphill, whereas the par-5 9th and par-4 10th holes are pretty straight, with a lot of office buildings on the left side of the fairways.
The straight par-3 11th hole is beautiful with its spectacular view of the... big parking lot (with plenty of cars !) behind the covered grandstands and the ocean below, and is followed by the par-4 12th, with marshals quieting the crowd near the tee and its fairway along the parking lot again, on the left.
The par-5 13th hole is very scenic, with a tee shot over a big and deep hollow wasteland on the left, ending near the elevated green, guarded by a few bunkers in front on both sides, just like the left dogleg par-4 14th, with its steep slopes on the left side of the fairway and behind the green.
The par-3 16th hole is one of my favorites, with its straight uphill tee shot over a deep out-of-bound wasteland, its colorful and elongated grandstands on the right near the small green, and its panoramic view of the cliffs and ocean behind, but the par-4 17th hole is nice too, with a tee shot over a wide and deep wasteland on the left side and a slightly-elevated green to the left.
Finally, on the par-5 18th hole, you will have to hit a long and tough approach shot to the green, while making sure to avoid the small pond in front on the left side, before heading for a well-deserved rest near the swimming pool of the big hotel on the right side.
With a new pano and some new rough textures, this Torrey Pines version is definitely one of my favorite courses and I can hardly wait to play the North version to admire, one more time, Quietly's innovative talent and his constant quest to improve this great game !

Excellent job as ever. I am extremely impressed with what you achieve with the CLS file. I find it hard enough to get a fountain to work.
I never turned the ratings on my courses, I guessed that might happen.

Yeah it happened to me as well back in the good old days when there were a lot more people around. I just turned off all the ratings on my courses back then. I figured that there were so few people left these days that the trolls would have moved on by now, but I guess not.

I've now turned off the ratings on all my courses and that'll be for good now.

Too bad.

I had that problem back in my last stint designing courses. I noticed a strange pattern to the ratings. I complained and eventually Course downloads investigated and found that at least one individual was routinely giving all my courses a rating of one. I think he was banned from rating courses after that. Eventually he apologised but the damage was done. I think it was shortly after that I quit designing. These people never leave comments to explain why they are giving low ratings. (I think they should have to) They feel they are anonymous but thesite admins can tell who is doing it. Someone also rated my last course as a 1 or 2 as it followed a similar pattern to yours.

Small people amuse me sometimes. I've turned the course ratings off for the 2 Torrey Pines courses.

I don't have a problem with people having different opinions from my own. I don't have a problem with people giving a course of mine a 4 or 3 star rating (although I think my courses mostly deserve more than a 3)

Yesterday, someone left a rating of 5. Today, the average rating for this course was 3.5. That most likely means a second person would have had to give a rating of 2 out of 5 in order to average out at 3.5.

There is no universe I'm aware of where this course should receive a rating of 2. If this is a 2 star course, then the majority of the courses on this site should probably have ratings in the negatives.

So carry on small person, whomever you are. I hope you feel better about yourself after giving this free course a 2 star rating.

This version of the South Course was not changed drastically from the prior version, but I felt there were enough small cosmetic changes to make it worth re-releasing it so it matches visually with the North course. Changes to the South include:

-new pano that matches with the North so both have the same pano.
(the original pano for the South couldn't be used for the North course)
-new rough textures
-improved fairway divots
-improved shrubbery effect out in the valleys
-new tennis court texture on #10
-improved details that match with the North along the South's first hole, including the spectator tent and starters shack between the South's #1 and the North's #10. The driving range net along the the North's #9 can now be seen off in the distance from the South, particularly when hitting into 18 green.

Generally speaking, the South course will play the same as before. It just looks a little more accurate and fits with the North better.

This version of the South course can coexist on your system with the other version. The system considers them as different courses. Since they play the same, though, you might be better off uninstalling the earlier version since this version is an upgrade visually.
